The Bellarine Peninsula has emerged as one of Victoria’s rising gourmet destinations-to-watch, and the latest addition to the stella food and wine line-up Beacon Brewing Co. is looking to lift the bar even higher.
Founder, Dan Cunningham started out as a keen home brewer from an early age with his passion being ignited after a trip to Europe in the 90’s. The respect for tradition and the reverence toward making, storing and serving beer made a strong impact and planted the seed for what would eventually evolve into Beacon Brewing Co.
Brewing from the site of Victoria’s oldest registered brewery, within the Scottish Chiefs Hotel located in Geelong, Dan rolled out his two regular beers: Beacon Bitter, a rich malt driven ale balanced by a powerful bitterness, as well as Beacon Pale Ale, an intensely hopped, dry refreshing beer in late 2009.
“I created Beacon Brewing Co. to explore the amazingly diverse flavours available to the modern beer drinker and am looking forward to showcasing some interesting seasonal brews inspired by some of the more extreme brewing traditions.” Said founder, Dan Cunningham.
Apart from brewing great tasting beers Beacon Brewing Company is strongly focused on education, with a number of tasting events planned to give consumers in the Geelong and Bellarine region more knowledge and insight, when it comes to their beer drinking choices.
“Being based in Barwon Heads, but utilising the brewing facilities at the Scottish Chiefs, my ultimate plan is to open a microbrewery in the Barwon Heads and further expand on our beer education sessions with a beer bar and band venue for ones to come and learn all about the golden ale”.
Bellarine Tourism is excited to welcome and work with Beacon Brewing Co., especially in light of phase two of the Bellarine Taste Trail to be launched in coming months.
“The Bellarine Taste Trail is our hero product and we are spending a lot of time and resources to further develop it. With some very exciting initiatives to be rolled out in the next few months we look forward to working with new, innovative products such as Beacon Brewing Co. to further enhance the food & wine experience on The Bellarine” Said Bellarine Tourism Chair, Hugo T. Armstrong.
Formal tastings and tours are available by appointment and Beacon Brewing Co. beer is currently available at local restaurants, providores and fine beer merchants in Geelong & The Bellarine. Contact Dan on 0417 544 542 for more information.
